Planning Your Floating Classroom Program

From simple one-hour Introductory Tours to multi-class
Land & Water packages, a variety of experiences are available.
The size of your group, your objectives, and your constraints are the first factors
to consider in seeking the most appropriate program option.

1) Group Size:
If you anticipate more than 20 participants, we recommend that you consider dividing your group into two or more
sections. If your group numbers 30 or more, dividing into smaller groups will be required. A variety of complimentary,
on-land activities are available through our ìLand & Waterî programs, to compliment the actual cruise.

2) Academic Objectives: The level at which your group is comfortable has a lot to do with the type of cruise that best
suits your needs. Either of the following formats is suitable as a stand-alone cruise, or may be combined with Land & Water programs.

3) Topical of Interest: The floating classroom is an excellent stage for science-based explorations of
physical, chemical and biological water quality parameters. Additionally, the view from the lake provides great
opportunities to study land-use patterns and local history. Take a few minutes to review a few of our Program Activities.

4) Time and Financial Constraints: Significant scholarship rates are available for your program. Our
objective is to make our programs available and affordable to everyone, and we have yet to turn a group from the
Cayuga Lake Watershed away due to lack of funds. However, we urge you to plan practically, taking into account
transportation and food for your trip!

5) Event Dates: Our cruise season usually runs April 15 - November 15. Plan on booking well in advance to get your preferred dates- we try to schedule spring programs during the January-March period and fall programs should be booked by the end of August!
